Snowshoeing

Walking atop the snow Have you tried it?

Have your own snowshoes? Take advantage of your safe, scenic parks or if not, borrow a pair from us!

Please enjoy perusing the resources below, including information about snowshoe borrowing at The West Woods Nature Center. (We will announce the start of each snowshoe borrowing season on Facebook and Twitter.)

Snowshoe Borrowing Guidelines

You’ll know when The West Woods is ready for snowshoeing when there’s at least four inches of snow on the ground. As a rule of thumb: the deeper the snow, the better for any snowshoe adventure.

Snowshoes are available first come, first served, free to Geauga County residents and $5 for out-of-county residents (credit card only). Borrowing can take place daily 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and last up to two hours, noting that all snowshoes must be returned by 4 p.m. Feel free to call 440-286-9516 to check availability, but please understand that no reservations will be taken.

Borrowers are required to complete this waiver form and leave a driver’s license with the front desk as a security deposit. Borrowers must be 18+ to check out a pair; anyone younger must be accompanied by an adult.

To prepare yourself for your experience, we suggest you watch this instructional video with Naturalist Trevor. To save time, learn your size before you arrive using our snowshoe size chart. (Are snowshoes available for children? Yes, they are we now have sizes for youth ages 3-6 and under 50 lbs!) And finally, please read our complete rules and regulations. For instance, snowshoes may not leave The West Woods except for registered programs.

We look forward to seeing you on snowshoes this winter!

Exceptions: Snowshoes will be used the following days for naturalist-led programs, with limited availability specified below. Thanks for understanding!
